The Stanford Technology Law Review (STLR) sets a new standard in multidisciplinary legal scholarship as an innovative forum for intellectual discourse on critical issues at the intersection of law, science, technology, and public policy. STLR uniquely combines technological expertise with scholarly outlook to provide timely, insightful, and important contributions to scholarly discussion in a broad array of topical areas.
STLR provides an interactive forum utilizing the latest Internet and electronic publishing technology. The Review publishes articles from scholars, distinguished practitioners, and students. Published in a timely fashion, materials are presented in a reader-friendly environment featuring simultaneous text and footnote viewing, hypertext links to supporting material, and access through the World Wide Web, Lexis-Nexis, and Westlaw. STLR's electronic format allows immediate reader response as well as ongoing Virtual Symposia. The Review is archived annually on STLR's dedicated server and in printed, bound volumes in the Stanford Law School library. All materials are formatted for citation according to Bluebook rules for electronic materials.
STLR's unique format provides a rapid turn-around time from submission to publication, a worldwide, multidisciplinary audience, and a welcome absence of both page limits and quotas. Articles are edited and reviewed by Stanford Law students with advanced technical degrees-often Ph.D.s-in the relevant subject area. Reader response functions allow authors to observe moderated public and scholarly discourse regarding their work, as well as provide verifiable readership data.
STLR was founded in January 1997 to take advantage of opportunities presented by developments in electronic publishing, Stanford Law School's strength in technology law, and students' interest in technology-related issues. STLR is a Stanford Law School organization managed by law students-many with graduate school backgrounds in various technical, scientific, and social science fields. Though students play a crucial role, STLR supporters such as faculty advisors and institutional sponsors have provided generous support and guidance. From its beginnings, STLR has also recognized that its success will depend not only on authors, but also on those readers who maximize the potential of the new
